2006 VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG - Wallpapers, Reviews, Pics, Photos, Articles WHAT VOLKSWAGEN HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS CAR: Image/Text Source: Volkswagen WOLFSBURG, Germany - The off-road vehicle from Volkswagen is enjoying increasing popularity since it was launched in the autumn of 2002. Having sold 5421 vehicles between January and April 2004, it is now the best-selling luxury class off-road vehicle on the German market continuing its recent success story. Since its launch over 74 000 Touareg have been sold worldwide. The most popular engine is still the R5 TDI which produces 128 kW (174 PS) and is ordered with 70 percent of vehicles sold. It is followed by the V10 TDI (230 kW / 313 PS). In April just under 15 percent of all Touaregs purchased were fitted with this engine. In addition, the off-road vehicle is also available with the V6 (177 kW / 241 PS) and V8 (228 kW / 310 PS) petrol engines. Regarding paint finishes the general trend is black and silver. The bestseller in Germany is "Black Magic Pearl effect" with 37.70 percent. More than half of buyers opt for the quality two-zone air conditioning system, the xenon light or the multi-function steering wheel as optional equipment. The Touareg Individual version represents a new exclusive addition to the range. With this Model the Volkswagen Individual GmbH starts the high-grade individual programm around the Touareg. Both the exterior and interior equipment of the Touareg Individual are characterised by the highest quality details. Inside, a new bicolour leather trim is used for the seats and parts of the door trim. The comfort seats in the Touareg are upgraded by a combination of nappa leather and brown natural leather. New ebony applications in the "macassar décor add even more style to this appearance. High-quality aluminium in the areas of the doors and sills sets up an optical contrast to the natural materials. Safety systems set the highest standards among off-road vehiclesProtection for both passengers and pedestrians With the new Touareg, Volkswagen is introducing an off-road vehicle which sets the highest standards for active and passive safety. From the perspective of active safety, the running gear with single-wheel suspension, optional CDC air suspension, 4XMOTION four-wheel drive, commanding braking, ESP, braking assistant, and details such as an optional tyre-pressure control system (TPC) shows that even the safety reserves of a luxury sedan can be achieved with a luxury off-road vehicle. The same is true for active safety. Even its appearance, with a low centre of gravity, shows that compatibility with smaller vehicles and pedestrian protection are important design considerations for this SUV. Volkswagen is not even offering a bull bar for the front end. Development strictly
in line with Euro-NCAP and US-NCAP; The crash requirements of Euro-NCAP and US-NCAP were taken into account during the Touareg's development to provide protection for both passengers and pedestrians. This is also true for the FMVSS 208 test, which is mandatory for all vehicles in the U.S. from 2003. In addition to all external standards, the Touareg also had to fulfil the extremely high crash requirements of Volkswagen. The new off-road vehicle is thus characterised by very high energy absorption at the front and an extremely rigid passenger cell. Special protective measures for the interior include additionally closed bars in the still panels, extremely rigid A, B, C and D-pillars and pillar connections, and the use of highly sturdy steels and laser seams. In addition, the door system was integrated into the Touareg's crash structure. And the highly stable door construction provides maximum flank protection in the event of side impact. Early crash sensors
control the triggering intensity of the Touareg passengers are protected by a state-of-the-art electronic safety system, whose early-crash sensors control the two-level triggering intensity of the driver and front-passenger airbags based on the severity of the accident. Standard equipment includes, in addition to front and side airbags, curtain airbags which each cover the entire window surface between the A and C-pillars. No compromises:
electrically igniting belt tensioner; The Touareg also boasts electrically igniting belt tensioners for window passengers (with force limiters for driver and front passenger), five three-point automatic belts, and belt height adjustment (B and C-pillars) for both front and rear passengers. If small children are travelling in child-safety seats in the front-passenger seat, the front-passenger airbags can be deactivated via an off switch. The Touareg's rear seats offer Isofix fasteners for standard child-safety seats. The protection system of the Touareg continues to work even following impact. As soon as a defined crash severity is exceeded or the airbags are triggered, all doors are automatically unlocked, the battery is isolated from the generator cable, the fuel supply and all high-power electrical units (such as the air conditioner) are shut down, and the hazard lights are switched on. Special structure
of the aluminium engine bonnet and Pedestrians and cyclists, the weakest users of the road, need to be protected as well as possible. The Touareg's body design thus possesses a number of features which optimise pedestrian and cyclist protection. Engine bonnet: The bonnet consists of aluminium to provide optimum deformation characteristics. Mud wings: The mud wings are constructed of plastic and thus also absorb more impact energy. Engine compartment: Defined deformation zones between the bonnet and motor covers selectively absorb energy in the event of impact. And the decision to forego both bull bars and an aggressive off-road design is proof of Volkswagen's fundamental philosophy of providing the best possible crash compatibility between the weakest and strongest users of the road. Parking-distance control with acoustic and visual signals (in the centre console and rear roof lining) enable centimetre-precise parallel parking The Touareg offers optional parking-distance control for safe and confident parallel parking. Ultrasonic transmitters and receivers in both bumpers detect distances up to 120 cm in front of and up to 150 cm behind the vehicle. If the Touareg approaches an obstacle, first visual and then acoustic warnings notify the driver of the fact. The visual signal for the distance in front is easily visible in the centre area of the dash panel. The rear signal in the roof lining between the D-pillars can be seen intuitively in the rear-view mirror. OUR TAKE ON THE 2006 VOLKSWAGEN TOUREG: The VW Toureg is the standout off road vehicle for the German automotive manufacturer. Though the Touareg is a fourth year model return, it still is expected to be a hot seller and offers a wide range of amenities. Styling is similiar to the Porsche Cayenne and has a luxurious interior similar to the forthcoming Audi Q7. The V10 model offers a supreme powerplant while the Touareg is stylishly similar to the complete new line of VW Cars for the 2006 years. THE VOLKSWAGEN TOUAREG COMPETES WITH: 2006 Ininiti FX, 2006 Nissan Murano, 2007 Chevy Tahoe, 2007 GMC Yukon, 2006 Chevy HHR Other Volkswagen vehicles: 2006 VW R32, 2006 VW GTI, 2006 VW Jetta, 2006 VW Passat RELATED ARTICLES, REVIEWS AND SITES:
